Booky's Crush

Sweet story of puppy love
After watching Booky and the Secret Santa last night, I saw two more titles pop up as instant plays on a movie rental site we subscribe to. Booky's Crush features the adorable Rachel Marcus in the title role as a young adolescent who suffers through the pangs of puppy love. The story is set in 1930s Toronto, during the Great Depression. The period drama also features one of my favorite actresses, Megan Follows as Booky's mom.

In this story, Booky is assigned a male study partner, played by Connor Price. Booky develops a crush on him and the story centers on Booky going through the challenges of adolescence, with her mom as her guide. As Booky's mom helps her daughter navigate through her puppy love, Booky's mom realizes her own marriage could do with some spark. This is a wonderful story to share with young adolescents, and makes for great family entertainment.

not as good as secret santa
I really enjoyed Secret Santa and so I ordered this, but this one leaves a lot to be desired. The entire movie was focused on who has a crush on whom. Seemed very superficial whereas Secret Santa seemed deeper.
